EMSV VIOLA DA GAMBA WORKSHOP - FUULY BOOKED
24th - 25th April 2021
The Early Music Society of Victoria is organising a 2 day viol consort workshop, to be held over the weekend of 24th/25th April at the home of Lyn and Peter Hawkins at 182 Berringa Road Park Orchards 3114.
There are three rooms available for consort playing including the main music room for combined groups and a library of viol consort music is available. Players from beginner to advanced are invited to come. The music director for the weekend will be Reidun Turner.
The programme is flexible, but will start at 9.30am each day with all participants meeting together before breaking into three consort groups of up to 6. The pitch will be A415.
Reidun will concentrate on coaching the less experienced players, whilst advanced players will be able to work on a range of pieces from the English viol consort repertoire with less frequent coaching.
Beginners are expected to be able to play on each string separately and know what the strings are.
The EMSV bass is available for hire for $50/week. There is also a tenor instrument available for private free short term loan as well. The instruments need to be hired for at least 2 weeks prior to the workshop in order for the player to be familiar with the instrument. (Hire forms attached.)
Nominal session times will be:
(1) 9.30 - 10.00 (group warm up) (2) 10.00 - 11.15 morning tea (3) 11.30 - 12.45 - Lunch- (4) 1.45 - 3.00, afternoon tea (5) (Sat) 3.30 - 5.00. (Sun) 3.30 - 4.30 pm.
We are expecting that after the 5th session on Sunday there will be an opportunity for groups to perform a piece they've worked on before a sympathetic and appreciative audience of fellow viol players.
Tea and coffee will be provided, but participants are expected to bring their own lunch. However there will be a pot of soup available.
THERE IS A LIMIT OF 18 PARTICIPANTS - FIRST IN, BEST DRESSED.
The fee will be $50 each for the weekend or $30 for 1 day. Attendees are encouraged to come both days.
The workshop is restricted to EMSV members. Non members will be asked to join the Early Music Society, and pay the membership fee of $15 per annum for individual or family with one email address. Please request a membership form if needed.
